Facebook Connect.  I remember hearing about this, and in fact, I installed in on TheMusicBlogs.com.au just to trial it over the first week of launch.  Do not ignore this, it may be very big.  Look forward to hearing your thoughts on what you think is a good implementation so far.

Why?

  • Trust: people trust Facebook.  It’s something they share personal information with.  Your visitors mightn’t know you.
  • Familiarity: People are very familiar with Facebook it’s like their email address. They know it, you know it. So why sign up for something else?
  • Ease of access: it’s so simple. You click on the FC button and you authorise the permissions. You’re in.

But let’s take this back for one second, and it’s something I’d encourage all sites and businesses to ask themselves:

What value are you adding to your customer by making them a member? Is it really as valuable as you think?
