The Man Behind mUmbrella: Tim Burrowes – A Digital Perspective

Tim Burrowes - the founder of mUmbrella - was kind enough to offer his digital perspective this week. What's the biggest change you've seen in the digital media industry over the past 12 months? Funnily enough, it's the apparent collapse of the traditional models, particularly for newspapers and TV. Faced with the combination of the economic roadcrash and the shifting that comes when a new medium arrives, they are finally beginning to face the realities that they are going to have to engage with digital media, not hope it goes away like it conveniently did last time round after the dotcom crash. But  ...

Privacy Caught Pants Down

Six Pixels of Separation recently wrote The Naked Truth - and with it some very interesting stats about the readiness of us youngsters to get our gear off.  I'm a digital native, in the younger gen-y bracket, but I say: technology is no excuse for irresponsibility. Nor do I think this is (as the article went to put it) a (what we consider) privacy issue.  Still, interesting read never the less. I'll never stop anyone taking a nude photo of themselves or their partner -- but don't expect them to keep it to themselves -- whether knowingly or unknowingly (human error ...

Thoughts: Privacy and what we consider privacy has changed

In recent years I have met and been enthralled by a numbered few. Nick Tyler is one of those people. Since 2006 he has challenged the way I think, work and live. Often (but never often enough) we get a chance to discuss anything and everything and sometimes in that order.  Nick, too much to possibly account to what I owe you: but thank you. Mentor, friend, brother. Mind, body and soul. Privacy and what we consider privacy has changed. Nick Tyler There is a lot of commentary on this currently. Good and bad. The problem is that the internet changes the game. Globalisation of ...

Google Street View – Are you OK with this?

So today our whole office erupted with everyone quickly going to find their house upon the announcement Google's street view in Australia.  We're the 5th country to have the search giant take voyeurism to the next level. I'm still not entirely sure I'm OK with this.  Sure, there's a lot of information about people already on the net (especially soc-net freaks like myself), and a lot of privacy questions, I'm sure. But something about my residence (and not to mention my car out the front!) being in clear view and accessible on the net makes me a little edgy. What about you? Have ...
