Knowledge Management, Leadership and Social Media On Social Media: We come from the knowledge management family rather than marketing - to enable social learning - recognising people learn most and best from conversing and sharing experiences with like minded others. On Design: Design permeates everything and is laden with a history and a future. On Leadership: Leadership in this environment of social media and knowledge management is all about recognising and respecting that everybody has a story. - Zaana This week I talked about the elements of leadership and had some great traction with a number of Tweeters including Zaana Howard, who was kind enough ...

Inspiration: a journey through design

Many designers as we (in this industry, anyway) know them were born and bred out of computers and digital instrumentation. TED has delivered another dose of pure inspiration as we hear John Maeda in My journey in design, from tofu to RISD.  Now at the Rhode Island School of Design, Maeda became president in 2008 Maeda, and tells us his story as a tireless experimenter and creative innovator. It's hard not to admire how Maeda looks at life and the world around him. This is a story about humanity and where design met computers.

Getting your Facebook group right name is important

Furthering my support for the return of the old Facebook, it seems "1,000,000 AGAINST THE NEW FACEBOOK LAYOUT!" (http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=27233634858) has a slight (only 9 million) discrepancy. Miss the old layout of Facebook? Luckily someone has worked out how to turn your Facebook back to old version. This was also interesting when I created the "Eat Colin The Whale!" Facebook group.  Seems the rest of Facebook decided Colin should have two L's -- the media and I disagree.  Oh well. Still makes for some great catch phrases. I Feel Like Colin Tonight! Eat him. Side dish him. GARNISH COLIN.

What font are you?

I rarely participate in these types of online personality comparisons. But finding out what font I might be was too much to resist. Recently Quit Your Day Job pointed me to Blogthings.com and their What Font Are You? poll after the author Lee discovered he was apparently Arial Black. Some people are really into fonts - I am not one of these people. Fonts serve their purpose and I know a little about the history of some of the more prominent and well-known fonts. ..but am nowhere near font geek status. This does not keep me up at night Unlike Lee, I am really into fonts; ...

New Facebook design and the loss of community control

One of my biggest fears is now very, very true: Whether we like it or not, the new Facebook design is going to be forced onto us. This is despite hard stats indicating users are switching back to the old Facebook, an option that will no longer be available. Users no longer have a choice. It's this lack of choice, this lack of user control, personalisation and disregarded feedback that has me angry. Online communities and their opinions should never be ignored. So whether we like it or not, we're stuck. I'll miss the design, I'll miss the user interface and the navigation.  What ...

Facebook isn’t sexy

Seems I'm not the only one who doesn't like the new Facebook design. I've already shared my views.  Would like to hear yours.  I wonder if Facebook does?

August 08: Site Developments, Thank You

to write, muse, dream, strategise, and scream about social media and the online digital industry If you've been following my blog for the past few weeks, you would have noticed a lot of change, not only in style, but in functionality. So I thought I'd take a minute to look back at what has been discussed and what is to come. Design: after an overwhelming vote to a white background, new content flow, fresh design, and pretty pictures to come; Hosting: I'm moving this site to a new host. I'll give everyone a heads up on when this will be happening in case ...
