Twitter: My Honest (Irrational?) Thoughts and Fears
You are only as good as your last Tweet.
True/False? Discuss.
Everyday, I and so many others plug in and fire up the little birdy – Twitter. But sometimes I have really strange thoughts about Twitter. Maybe they are better described as fears.
Here are mine, add yours.
- Before I go to bed, and during the 7-10am ‘login time’ - I worry that should make sure my last Tweet is something interesting
- That, in turn, makes me feel that everything I tweet should be just as important if I’m really adding value
- If I’m away for more than an 8 hour period during Monday – Friday I might miss a link that could change my life or develop my career
- It’s impossible to tweet something that everyone finds value — although Marcus is planning to show me otherwise (at time of writing this)
- That my good/valuable Tweets (generally with a link) will get buried behind my @’s.
- That Australian followers are some how more important.
After catching up with some fellows birdies at the NSWKM Forum, I didn’t feel so alone.
What are yours?

You are not alone Jye. I’m developing a 12-step process for dealing with Twidction (Twitter addiction). Together, we can get through this, one worthless @ at a time.
Sometimes I’d do anything for a fix. Look forward to it.
This is where social judgement comes in. You see, it is not just about what you say, but who you converse with. That means that you don’t have to worry about individual tweets, but the value-network that you create via ongoing conversations with smart folks ;)
Think you are doing a pretty good job on that front!
7. That visible @replies to my friends’ enemies will cause me more trouble than it’s worth!
As Matt said – you are not alone! I agree with all of your points.
Lately I am a little guilty of a few worthless tweets and I think I need to tighten up what I do post, but nonetheless interaction is interaction, and sometimes a few unvaluable tweets here and there is better than no tweet at all – at least it shows you’re somewhat active.
All valid concerns if you’re really thinking about it hard… but over time, it’s the regular, informative, imaginative conversations that define you as a Champion Tweeter, not the last thing you scrawled as you ran out the door.
I say this as I desperately pack up to leave, my daughter waiting at Day Care… hopefully not the last one there. It’s far more important that I give ‘value’ to my kid in real time, than the value I may or may not provide in 140 characters. It’s easier to redeem myself to fellow tweeps tomorrow than it is to win her trust back.
Anyway, just a long winded way of saying… don’t worry, be happy. There’s bigger things in the world to put your big, inquiring mind to Jye.

i think you’re thinking about it too much mate.
I did qualify the irrationality of it all :)
