The Music Blogs: Creating my first online community
Over the past few weeks I’ve been pulling together my very first online community: The Music Blogs (www.themusicblogs.com.au). The beta started over the weekend and we officially launched today (it was seeded with the previously removed content from ADP).
Why? Because I was compelled to blog about music. It made an occasional appearance on my blog. Whether it was a new album, new guitar, or new trend. I then identified this same trend in other bloggers – it would be a one off post here or there, still very compelling, but it didn’t quite fit.
I didn’t want this to be about me, or my band, or anything in particular. I wanted to give this to Australian bloggers and let them shape the community. Let them shape the voice.
What I really wanted to convey was that anyone could join: musos, groupies, listeners – anyone who has a passion for music. I’m simply building the channel; the bloggers drive the community, content and conversations.
In the first 12 hours we had over 1200 views. I was stunned.
- Say what you mean, 642 views
- Zoom H2 handheld audio recording, 293 views
- Found My Zen, 154 views
Can’t thank enough our founding bloggers:
Annik Skelton, Julian Cole, Kahlee Rose, Katie Harris, Nathanael Boehm, Richard Taylor, Scott Drummond, Stewart Sheargold, Stuart McPhee, Suz Hinton.
So here I am – putting myself to the test. All feedback welcome and valued. Big thanks to Annik and Nathanael for kicking things off, and also spreading the word. We’ve just recruited our 10th blogger, with plenty of room for more.
TheMusicBlogs.com.au (TMB) is a collaborative blog project based in Australia. We aim to deliver a multitude of perspectives on music, artists, and the industry, as well as listeners’ opinions.
Written by listeners, musicians, producers – for anyone who shares the same passion for music.
We’ll be looking at album reviews, concert info, audio tech equipment, guitar know how, industry news and opinion.

This sounds cool Jye, I consider myself a musician first and ‘blogger’ is a job title much further down the list. I’ll check it out. My last music blog (http://www.blackmarketrhythmco.com/blog/) kind of died in the arse though from lack of attention.
I know exactly what you mean. I’m a musician too – and came up against the same problem running a blog in house at http://www.Sonixtrip.com
I also experienced the same problems, but with the team (10 at last count) it’ll get the love and attention it deserves as well as covering a wide range of topics.
Interested in joining up?
Prog rock hey?
Yeah, I’m interested, but a bit busy at the moment! I’ll be in Sydney in a month so we should catch up then.
Yep – think a blend of Deftones, Butterfly Effect, Cog.
Probably should have prefaced that with ‘the site is “inbetween places”‘ hahah.
Give me a yell when you’re ready and I can set you up. We’re looking for fortnightly posts at minimum – thats all ;)
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
