    Indeed beautiful.

Yet these Auroras could potentially be the death of us. The extremely radioactive Gammer rays that cause the beautiful light show in the night sky are actually damaging the atmosphere all the time. During fierce solar storms the EMF emitted from these rays has the power to knock out power stations! The solar storm of December 2010 actually took down 2 satellites.

I’d love to see them – apparently you can see them quite well in Tasi. According to this site, http://stott.customer.netspace.net.au/aurora.htm, you can see the southern lights in NSW!
