Review of Alien VS Predator: Requiem

What a fucking disappointment. I've been a huge fan of both the Alien and the Predator series. In fact, I still consider Alien my favourite movie. Firstly, the director has jammed both the 'jungle' theme from Predator and the urban theme from Predator: 2 into the one film. Which means both were strongly compromised. All Alien films (including Alien VS Predator) had a great sense of isolation. Seems someone thought they'd make a better film by dropping this completely. All of sudden, taking them out of surreal surroundings, it lost ALL credibility and became another cheezy alien based monster flick. All this movie ...

Dr Whisky

A great example of how passions of the real world and the resonance of the internet come together. It's time a paid homage to one of my favourite blogs: Dr. Whisky who each post gives a great insight into whiskies from around the world. Recently he made post #200 - and summarised a recent tasting of a 1970 Johnnie Walker Black Label. Whether you're looking for your next obscure, rare and ancient whiskey, or aquiring a sharper taste of your first dram, it's an excellent resource for nose and tasting notes. Learn from the best, and then drink the rest. -Jye Smith

iconofy

Big shout out to very close friend, mentor, and partner in crime Scott-Bradley Pearce, and congratulations on (finally) launching Iconofy. With over 15 years experience in the digital media (everything from tech to strategy and in between) it'll be a great insight into the industry. Best.

I Seek Me on ICQ

Getting back onto ICQ was going to be such a non-event I'm only starting this now. I'll get to why later. After ringing a long time friend, Clarkey, who still had an active ICQ account, I quickly found my long lost ICQ Number which at 8 digits, holds some prestige (although I was quickly put in place, by new friends with even older account including a 6 digit). Download the 2001b version (heard terrible reports about the new version) from Old Version. Again, no problems, installed quickly ran like a dream. C Great. Sorted. UIN and Password. Fuck. Now I need ...

MySpace Bulletins

If any of you still float around MySpace (and by float, I mean lurk) still after moving your name to FB, you'll notice that some kids still have a very, very heavy bulletin post rate - these are the people who would be ideal to use something like Twitter. There's 2 girlfriends of mine in particular who continually bulletin, and MySpace's clunky 'click-here-to-see-anything-at-all' interface is a big barrier for me to bother to read beyond the title. As a little experiment, I've suggested Twitter to both of them - although I can already predict their response - "None of my friends use, ...

STUB 2

Thursday was the second "Sydney Twitter Underground Brigade" Twitter meet up. Big thanks to Happener for putting on the drinks and nibbles. Was great to see the Twoddle* offline, and tweeting** with real speech, emotive gestures and LOLs you could hear. Great night. My favourite part was the name tag, and it was soon realised that your username was more important than your real name. *Twoddle: Collective name for group who use Twitter **Tweet: singular item posted on Twitter The video interviews of the night by Scott-Bradley Pearce has been released today. Hope to see you twits at number three. Do you follow ...

Username and Password

As the number of online applications and services increase, many of them in the same sector (e.g. social networking), the time it takes to load up and login to all these becomes longer and longer. The more passwords you forget, the more usernames you begin to hesitate on. Prediction: whoever manages to combine one interface drawing on all these sites and applications will soon find themselves with not only a huge market, but loyal followers. Mine are posted on the right hand side of the page. And then there are my various online applications I use for work. Moving right along - FaceBook ...

Facebook Will Fail

I’m making this official now: my prediction is that the numerous applications that FaceBook allow and encourage, will ultimately bring it undone. I believe it’s already starting to have a negative effect on the site’s integrity. On the other hand, FaceBook has a lot of user friendly, accessible, logical and ergonomic features that really set it apart from MySpace. Those of you who use MS will notice it scurrying to pick up the pieces of it’s all technology to catch up. Good luck, but um.. too little, too late? Just quickly, few nice points about the ol’ FB: Newsfeed - omg ♥ Logical flow ...

Nokia e61i

I did it. I finally did it. I bought the Nokia e61i. So far loving it. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great PDA that doesn’t become a totally useless phone. The Nokia’s Symbian OS has a vast range of applications to meet the desires of anyone who feels they miss WM 5.0. So here are my first impressions. Top application: Mail for Exchange Great functionality, on & off user-generated peak times All the additional applications are handily pre-loaded on the mem card (which is a Micro slot) and you just install the ones you want For you CrackBerry ...
