I’ve been a fan of the life-hack blog The Growing Life for some time now and it turns out it was almost shut down by the author, Clay Collins. This is one of the most honest and real blog posts I’ve ever read. Some really open insights into the author’s mindset, perspective and opinions. This has always been one of my favourite places on the internet – so I’m voicing my support:
Keep the fucking thing open, Clay. The internet would miss you.
“The music we select, share, shape and import back into our ongoing mix helps shape what we are.”
Every so often you hear a phrase that makes you stop and think. Came across this one from David Cushman‘s post at /Message. I think this is a really unique look at the digital world.
What am I adding? I think this goes beyond blogging: it can be linked to the very nature of open source, mashups, social networking, user generated content and interactivity.
I was completing what I thought was just another credit card purchase form, and for some reason the ‘promotional code’ box caught my eye. So I thought, what the hell? I’ll google for a code and see what comes up. Sure enough, I ran into RetailMeNot.com.
This is a site where users can come and submit their coupon codes not only for the world to share, but users can comment and rate their experiences using the codes. So if you have ever wanted to find an online promotional or discount code, now you can.
This should always be about the desires of the individual: their community, their communication, and their audience. We have a responsibility to communicate this as best we can.
It’s interesting to look back and see just how far we’ve come in terms of social media. Visualising the landscape has always been an important factor to help express this in a way that can be understood universally, whether you’re a web user, tech evangelist, marketer, client or agency.
If you’ve ever wanted to get one of those icons that appear in bookmarks, favourites and browser tabs, then this is the only site you need to visit: Favicon Generator (http://www.degraeve.com/favicon/)
Technically named “favicon.ico”, the site lets you draw your own Favicon or upload an image to be converted into the tiny image file. Adds a very refined touch to your site or blog.
I broke my own rule recently. I wanted to get the opinions of people on the Google Street View in Australia – a topic I’m quite vocal about. So rather than creating a group “Australians against Google Street View” or “Australians for Google Street View” I created a group asking the question – Are you OK with this?
So today our whole office erupted with everyone quickly going to find their house upon the announcement Google’s street view in Australia. We’re the 5th country to have the search giant take voyeurism to the next level.
The media, the digirati, everyone – is talking about the new Delicious (the site formally known as del.ico.us) design. The social-bookmarking site has been a cornerstone of web 2.0, interactivity and community strength.
There’s a great video and article at Mashable! - so I won’t regurgitate what they’ve already said, but needless to say, it’s a great move forward. Seems I can’t embed the video here – but make sure you check it out.
